Come a little closer and step inside a wondrous show promising great things: “We've got magic to do, just for you, we’ve got miracle plays to perform!” Prince Pippin – based on the historic eldest son of Charlemagne – takes his chances with a theatrical experiment, and his life ends up in the hands of a dazzling leading player and her troupe of artists. With her guidance, he goes through various phases to find his way in life and become “something extraordinary”. But which path is the right one, and will the “grand finale” really bring him the fulfilment he hopes for?

The original 1972 version of Pippin received five Tony Awards, while its 2013 Broadway revival took out four of the coveted trophies. The Staatsoperette presents the legendary music by composer Stephen Schwartz, a four-time Grammy and three-time Oscar winner, with a new orchestral arrangement by Koen Schoots. This coming-of-age story, performed as a spectacular show, is told by Simon Eichenberger, who acts as both stage director and choreographer.
