Florentine Schumacher

Florentine Schumacher was born in Güstrow in 1994 and grew up in Eichelhardt in Germany's Westerwald region. She attended Westerwald-Gymnasium grammar school in Altenkirchen, graduating in 2013, and took private singing lessons with Sandra Isabella Steng from the age of 11. She began her training in musicals, before realising that her voice and passion aligned more with classical singing.
From October 2013 to February 2020, she completed a Bachelors and Masters course in singing - as a soprano - under Prof Targler-Sell at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt. In 2014, she played the blonde in the children's opera version of Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio) at the Sommerfestspiele summer festival in Bad Vilbel. In a production by the Jugendtheater Koblenz, she played the role of Despina in Mozart's opera Cosi fan tutte at the Stadttheater Koblenz,
and, in 2015, she won the Young Talent Award at the 21st International Louis Spohr Competition. August 2015 saw her play Papagena (Mozart's The Magic Flute) as part of the Sommeroper Bamberg,
and in 2016 she sang in a production by the Frankfurt Opera, The Moon and Old Tree, and Benjamin Britten's operetta, Paul Bunyan. She was a finalist in the junior division of the 'Bundeswettbewerb Gesang' national singing competition in Berlin.
In 2017, she sang the role of the blonde in the opera Die kleine Entführung as part of a children's production at the Darmstadt State Theatre, and was also involved in the 'Sonic Blossom' project by Taiwanese artist Lee Mingwei, which was part of the Peace exhibition at the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt. The project saw her perform and sing at the Museum für Moderne Kunst, Architekturmuseum and Museum für angewandte Kunst.
In 2018, she sang at several New Years concerts held by the Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra, and also began working as a singing teacher at Cologne's Music Academy Köln Süd. In addition to this, she was
a judge at the 24th International Louis Spohr Competition. During the production nights at the HfMDK, she sang the role of Zerlina in the performances of Don Giovanni. At the 2019 production nights, she sang the role of Adina in L'elisir d'amore and, in the October, also performed at Opernwerk Vol.4, as well as at a large opera gala with the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra. She additionally played one of the main roles, Lucia, on stage in Hindemith's The long Christmas dinner, and was admitted into the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Frankfurt am Main Foundation.
Since March 2020, she has been taking extra courses with Prof Krahnenfeld at the Mannheim University of Music.
In February 2021, she was part of the premiere of musical theatre production Rekonstruktion 5.0 at the Gallus Theater Frankfurt, and in June and July launched her own project, 'MYTHEN – Von Mythen und Legenden', which attracted an audience of over 200 to a whole host of natural settings. From October to December 2021, she performed 15 times a month in the MEISTERKLASSE production at the Zimmertheater Heidelberg.
The young soprano has been a member of the Dresden State Operetta's company since December 2021, and will take to the stage as Hannchen in The Cousin from Nowehere and as Infanta Isabella in Märchen im Grand Hotel from February.
She has also participated in numerous masterclasses, led by the likes of Helmut Deutsch, Markus Kupferblum, Angelica Kirchschlager, Noel Turner, Klesie Kelly-Moog and Franz Hawlata.
She holds a scholarship from the Richard-Wagner-Verband Bamberg and is actively involved in many concerts in varying capacities.
